| - Udupi is a delicious vegetarian restaurant on the Tempe/Scottsdale line. It is primarily vegetarian, and also has some vegan offerings. It has a daily lunch buffet, a good value at $9 on weekdays, that goes up Friday-Sunday.
Being a budget hunter foodie, the lunch buffet fits the bill. The freshly cooked dosa makes a welcome appetizer and I eat it with the coconut and tomato chutneys, both delicious. Two soups are also available, one a tomatoey lentil soup, quite savoury, and the other is a sour vegetarian soup that has a pleasant tang to it.
The lentil cakes are delicious and, again, go well with the aforementioned chutneys. After finishing one or two of them I move onto the rice and curries. I love them all including the matter paneer (peas with cheese cubes), split yellow lentil curry, green bean and coconut curry, and the cauliflower and potatoes.
The buffet also includes dessert, usually something sweet yet healthy, such as the carrot halwa. You won't be disappointed with the lunchtime buffet.
I've also eaten here a couple times at night. I love the Gobi Manchuria, so much so that it's what I ate both times. It tastes like a vegetarian Orange Chicken--a dish that will satisfy even the meat eaters amongst us.
Check out this place, support a local business, and enjoy a delicious meal and good service.
