  • I'd like to preface my review with the fact that I've been taking my son to Healing Hearts for nearly four years with no major incidents other than the usual doctor office things like forgetting to fax a prescription, occasional longer than average wait times, and mistakes with insurance billing. Truth be told, prior to my visit last Thursday, my experience there wasn't really worthy of reviewing, good or bad. Healing Hearts was simply convenient and I always felt that my son received adequate care. However, after my experience with Sonia, a Nurse Practitioner at Healing Hearts, I doubt I will ever take my son back. I called in the morning and scheduled a same day visit for my son because he had a cough that seemed to be getting worse, not better. I was squeezed in at 5:00pm with Sonia. After waiting for a little bit in the room, she entered and greeted us and asked why I had brought him in. I let her know that he'd had a cough for a little over a month now that seemed to no longer be progressing, but instead getting worse. I let her know that the cough originally accompanied a cold, but remained after all other symptoms had disappeared. Sonia then asked, "Do you know anything about the human anatomy?" which I found her tone and question to be extremely condescending. I told her I did and she then decided to explain to me that my son had "these things called lungs." Again, rude. After explaining what lungs do, she said she'd give them a listen. Afterwards, she said to just keep doing what we had been doing, i.e. treating with humidifier, allergy meds, etc. I asked her what to do if the cough didn't go away in another week or so. After all, he had been getting no sleep at night because of it. She kind of shrugged and said, "I can give him a step test if that will make you feel better." Yes. That would make me feel better. Roughly a minute after his throat had been swabbed, she came back in to let me know the test came back negative. I thought that was odd, since every other time he's been swabbed, it's taken roughly 10-15 minutes to get a result. But, I trusted the answer she gave me. I left the office feeling uneasy about the visit. I felt like my son and I were treated like we were an inconvenience to Sonia and she just wanted to move us out of there as quickly as possible. Fast forward to today, when I listened to a voicemail on my phone that Sonia had left for me. She stated that my son's step test had actually come back positive. My son went Thursday - Monday with strep and no antibiotics. I cannot even begin to explain the anger, frustration, and guilt that I felt when I listened to that voicemail. I was angry at the less than adequate care that my son received, frustrated at myself for not asking for another nurse practitioner when I felt we weren't getting proper care, and guilty that as a mother, I'd let my son down and he'd paid the price with a prolonged illness. Again, I have to say that after this visit, we'll probably no longer be clients at Healing Hearts.
