| - I'm shocked at all the good reviews about Karsh's Bakery. To anyone from a cosmopolitan city with a large Jewish population and multiple choices, this place is dreadful. No offense intended, but I imagine if you don't have a good comparison point, then maybe it will suffice. Actually, it has to suffice, because they pretty well have a monopoly on Jewish bakeries. Only other competition would be Chompie's, if you call that a bakery. The challah is like sawdust. Dry and tasteless. The pastries are pathetic and there is not one real fresh ingredient in any of them. The cakes with "buttercream" icing, don't contain butter, etc., etc. The list goes on. The rye breads are decent tho. Worst of all is the price they get for these sub standard items. The fancy iced cookies are $3.50 - 4.50 EACH. There was one today that was decorated like a slice of watermelon. It was cute, but it was basically half a cookie, since it was a half moon shape. So I correct myself, that one was $4.50 for HALF a cookie. It's over $5 a loaf of bread that is under $4 at Trader Joe's, and it's as good or better there. The onion rolls, kaiser rolls, hot dog and hamburger buns, etc., are $10.80 a dozen. $10.80 a dozen?? That means that a good juicy kosher Hebrew National hot dog costs less than the hot dog bun you put it in. Really??
