| - Our experience with the restaurant was terrible:
THE FOOD: My wife ordered the Filet Mignon. The $50 steak had no flavor. You could get the same piece-of-meat at Norm's for 1/3 of the price. The dish came with no sides so it was an additional $8-$12 for the sides. I am sorry but this is not Morton's or Flemming's. This is a lounge bar that thinks their food is upscale, which is is not.
THE AMBIANCE: If this was suppose to be an upscale lounge, it certainly did not look it to us. It was about 7:00 PM on a Friday Night and the patrons were a few older couples and a table full of people on business. The music was booming but the atmosphere was sad.
THE SERVICE: All the waitresses were wearing tight short mini-dresses and high heels. Was this supposed to be a high-end Hooter's? They had absolutely no service skills. Our waitress was unfriendly and totally disinterested. When asked about some of the items on the menu, her answer were curt and short. It was as if she had somewhere better to be. Sigh! After taking our orders, she came back 3 times to check on us. Each time, she barely stopped walking passed our table. She whizzed by while asking if "everything was OK?"
THE WORST: We paid a portion of our bill through Groupon. First, there was a automatic gratuity for just 2 people. Really?! When we were presented with the bill, it was carefully folded so that you could not see the charge of $18.00 for gratuity. The portion of the bill that you could see stated that gratuity has not been included. What?! If you did not look, you would end up paying the gratuity twice. Second, when we gave our credit card to the waitress, she charged the balance to our room including a second gratuity charge . We never asked her to do that. We did not even tell her that we were guests of the Mandala Bay. She took our name off the credit card, looked us up on their system and charged the balance of the bill to the room. Why did she do that? That is a total invasion of privacy. She wanted to double her gratuity? When I called the next day to speak with the acting manager "Reva", she informed me 3 times during our conversation that "this happens all the time". At which point, I asked "what do you mean that it happens all the time? and "it happens all the time that your staff take it upon themselves to look up the guests' names to see if they are guests of the Mandalay Bay and automatically apply the charges to the room without their permission?!" She replied that she needed to speak with the waitress. At this point, I realized that she was just deflecting. I was not going to get an apology nor some sort of answer so I thanked her and ended our conversation. Even now, I have no idea if additional charges are going to show up on my credit card or my room charges. I guess they can place charges onto your credit card or your room without your permission.
I sent a message to Guest Services at the Mandalay Bay but have not heard from them yet. My next recourse would probably be security services or perhaps contact the Las Vegas PD. I feel that our privacy has been invaded. Now they have access to our info including our credit caqrd number. I tried to tell the manager that we were extremely anxious about this but alas, I was given the brush-off like "this happens all the time". SMH!!
