I really enjoy coming to Lalibela. This is a great place for a group of friends because it's definitely different than anything else in town and it is really easy to share.
So Ethiopian food... basically you eat everything with this spongy, swiss cheese like bread called "injera" that kinda tastes like a crepe. You usually have a couple of sides that are cooked in a stew type thing called "wat". I just realized that I made it sound a bit unappetizing, but it's good stuff--especially because it's out of the norm and the sides vary from simple and vegetarian to very rich meats.
I like bringing friends here because you can all split one of their combinations. They'll give you a huuuuuge plate that has like a dozen different sides on a bed of injera. You also get extra injera on the side. From there, take a sip of your tea and dig in! The plate will be in front of everyone so you can kind of just eat at it together until it's gone or you're full.
This place is not for everyone, but you have to kind of go into knowing that it's going to be a different meal experience. If you go into it as more of an adventure rather than just nice dinner, you're going to have a blast and you will tell your friends what you have discovered. :)
