This place is great! I arrived 15 minutes early but there were no other customers so I was taken right away. I'd called an hour before to make the reservation (today, which is Tuesday).
A trendy guy rocking a red bun with dark roots took care of me. I told him I wanted my split ends cut off my layered, slightly-below shoulder do. He took his time to make sure every strand was cut the proper length - which is more than I can say for the last salon I went to that charged more than $100.
For $30 at Maya, you get a women's cut and a blowdry. I don't usually use heat appliances on my hair, so I was apprehensive at first but my hair looks amazing. It wasn't an extreme blowdry, either. It tamed my hair into its natural style. The last salon I went to, which specialized in blowdrys, sent me out looking like a dog who had frolicked in a puddle. I guess that blowdry just wasn't "me." I'm beyond impressed that the stylist at Maya chose one that is.
There was a juice-box on the desk but my stylist didn't offer it to me and I would have felt awkward taking it. But I try to stay away from sugary drinks anyway.
If you've been putting off getting a haircut like I had been, call Maya right now! I stopped getting regular cuts once I moved to Toronto because I couldn't find a good, affordable place - but I'll definitely return in 6-8 weeks!
