  • Drove out here with a friend on Saturday in another attempt to get an affordable, solid blowout. I am always on the hunt for a new place that can tame my mane but typically end up pretty disappointed. I was hopeful that VIP would deliver great results because I have been pretty impressed with other dominican salons. I figured since they are in Harrisburg they may be a little cheaper and possibly less crowded... The bottom line is that they were not very friendly, not very efficient and the blowout was not very good. It was okay, just not great. In their defense it was raining on Saturday so the fact that my hair was frizzy and kinking up immediately is not entirely their fault. They added some extra "body" to my hair which I really didn't want and I don't even think it was on purpose from their end. They used a flat iron and a TON of hairspray which shouldn't be the case but it was.. I also asked for a deep conditioner but only sat with it under the dryer for about 10 minutes which is odd. They said they didn't charge me for the deep conditioner because it was my first visit which was a nice gesture but the total was still $40 so I don't know that they did me a huge favor. Especially because the conditioner didn't even have time to work. My friend was offered a little "body" during her blowout which she opted for but she ended up looking like she was going to prom. Her hair was in tight little ringlets so it was not at all what she was expecting. As the curls fell it looked fine but initially she looked like shirley temple and it was quite comical. Overall I just didn't like them. They seemed bothered from the moment we walked in and I never felt welcomed. I am still trying to find a great blowout at a decent price but Charlotte is suffering! The one I really like is a Dominican salon on South Blvd and they have the market cornered so their prices are ridiculously high. I am hoping some more pop up and drive the cost down in this area. There is a definite need!
