Located on charming Monroe Street near clothing and wine shops, the Brasserie V is a go-to place for Belgian beers on tap or a casual lunch. This is not a place to go for cheese platters. I had been to Brasserie during winter break and had a pleasant (yet not memorable) lunch, so I was curious to return and check out their Belgian beers. My friend and I were not terribly hungry, but wanted a snack or two to accompany our Belgian brews. Being in Wisconsin it seemed cheese was the most appropriate choice . Our server told us that the small cheese platter was enough for 1-2 people, so we selected our requisite three cheeses from the chalkboard list and continued chatting.
A while later the wooden platter arrived and I was shocked to find three nearly microscopic slivers of cheese, each barely an eighth of an inch thick. What I later found out were "spiced nuts" (the mystery chunks served in a dollhouse-size bucket) did not do anyone any favors either. I understand that less often does mean more when it comes to carefully selected cheeses, and I was not expecting an "all-you-can-eat" trough of the stuff. My gripe really revolves around the price--$15 for three nearly translucent cheese shavings and stale bread? No thank you!
