  • Summary: Peoria ford lied over the phone to get me to their dealership then attempted to win my business by belittling me. Long Version: I was shopping for a vehicle last weekend and online saw that Peoria ford had the truck I was looking for. I called them on Sunday morning and the salesman Paul Ray verified that they had the vehicle still so I asked him if they were making reasonable deals on that truck and he was quite honest and told me "NO" that they do not make deals on the Ford Raptor at their dealership. I thanked him for his honesty and saving me the time to drive to Peoria from Scottsdale. Two hours later assistant manager Mark Davis called me up and said he was going through the call logs and heard I was looking for a Raptor. I let him know that was correct but that the Paul had let me know they were not making any deals on the Raptor trucks. Mark said that they usually do not but since it was a holiday weekend and they had a sales goal they would surely make me a deal if I drove over to buy it today. I asked Paul if he had to speak with someone else to authorize making a deal below MSRP on the Raptor and he informed me he was the assistant sales manager and he would be making me the deal. I drove over right over there and met with Mark who took my information and said he would begin working on my deal while Paul showed me the truck and checked out my trade. I gave them keys to my trade and drove the truck then came back to discuss the details of the deal. Mark and Paul came out of the back area with a paper on which they had the full MSRP plus $2100 in dealer additions including a $495 bed liner that the truck didn't even have. I reminded him of the conversation we had over the phone which was the motivation for my drive across town and he said he would go back and discuss it with the Sales Manager to see what kind of deal can be worked. He asked what it would take for me to buy the car today and we put down a figure and I signed it stating I would commit if they did. When Mark left Paul came back out with a credit app and said it looks like they are going to be able to get me the deal I want and that I should start filling out the credit app. I declined and stated that I would like to see the numbers first and Mark appeared a few minutes later. The updated deal was full sticker on the vehicle but with the dealer additions corrected to reflect the removal of the bed liner that wasn't on the vehicle. I let him know that this was clearly still not what we had discussed and he stated that this was the best his manager could do. I let him know that he was making a liar out of himself as we clearly discussed his willingness and authority to give me a deal below sticker on the phone before my drive over. The "deal" I was being presented with resulted in a cost over $1500 above the full sticker price of the vehicle. He said they could do no more and that I wouldn't get any better anywhere else. I asked that they return the keys to my trade as I was unwilling to accept the terms they were offering. Mark and Paul both left to get my keys. Paul and the sales manager DJ Bernside returned with my keys. DJ sat down and attempted to persuade me to accept their offer by stating that I was lucky to get the deal they were presenting because people in California buy these cars for $10k over sticker. I reminded him that they was Peoria Arizona not SoCal. He mentioned me calling his assistant manager a liar and I corrected him and said that he was making himself a liar by presenting me with the opposite of what I was told I would see. After a few more minutes of DJ very loudly and rudely talking over me I asked for my keys and his name. He told me his name and as I wrote it down for my Yelp review he said that I did not spell it right. I asked if he would like to give me the spelling and he walked away stating that I should get a dictionary. As I went to leave I was presented with what appeared to be the paper we were negotiating on and was told by DJ that I should have it to include in my letter to make sure I don't exaggerate. I smiled and left then later realized that they changed the figures and added a new row stating "$1000" discount. The bottom line for the truck even after their last minute "discount" was still $55,085 and the sticker price on the vehicle was $54,585. I prefer not to call people liars so I will just point out a simple math observation that $55,085 is greater than $54,858 and leave it at that. I have purchased many cars over the last decade or so and have had to negotiate on every single one of them. This is the only time I ever left a dealership feeling like I had been blatantly lied to and completely disrespected by the sales manger. As I was leaving the salesman Paul actually said "I am so sorry" and I let him know that he was not the source of the problem as he was the only one who was honest to me that day
