  • After years working out at Pure Fitness, I was sad when LA bought them out. Gold's is conveniently located, and the price is right (for the most part). I enjoy classes so I pay the $20 per month rate, but am disheartened that they never check people in before classes and I've heard of people who pay the $10 and still enjoy the benefits of classes. It's not really a fair system, especially for people who are honest enough to pay the $20. My major complaint with this gym is that it is almost always crowded and there is never adequate parking between 4-9pm. I know this is mainly out of their control, but it's really a hassle when it takes 10 minutes, literally, to park whenever I want to workout. This obviously means the gym is overcrowded between these hours. I understand peak hours exist at all gyms, but I've never been to any other gym where the peak hours are 4-9pm. In addition, recently it's been very warm and humid with a musty smell in the main gym. The last few months it's often cooler outside than inside. The class offerings are okay. Zumba with TC is great and so is any class with Deann. I wish they offered yoga and/or pilates more than 1 night per week, and I wish they offered an evening class with Zumba Jill who is the greatest. Several women I work out with have left for other gyms specifically to take Jill's classes- she's that good! The workout room is nice and big, but the stereo and microphone system has been broken on and off since I joined a year ago. The teachers all complain and yet it still is finicky. Additionally, there has been a huge crack in the mirror in the workout room for a while. Like the mirror, I notice that repairs are slow at this Gold's Gym. My only other issue is that last time I was at CityScape, I noticed the Gold's Gym Elite was running a $20 per month special. I inquired inside and they told me I'd have to ask at my Peoria location about it. I did so, and said if I am paying the same price I would like the option of using the Elite gym as well. They told me that was not possible and I would have to pay extra to access Elite. I definitely felt like I was getting the run around. Listen, if you want a cheap, clean place to workout and you aren't picky, go to Gold's. If you're bothered by issues like I mentioned above, shop around like I'm doing now!
