| - I went to Van's to have the ignition switch replaced on my car from the recent recall. NEVER AGAIN! Oh, where to start...
Dropped the car off and was told I'd get a call later in the day when it was ready. Also asked that they do an oil change, since it was already there. First call: they had "found" all kinds of problems with my car, completely unrelated to what I had asked them to do. Surprise, surprise - not falling for most of it. OK'd to do one "minor" change to fix a leak. They gave me an estimate, which later turned out to be $400 less than what they actually tried to charge me. Second call: the recall replacement part was bad and they wouldn't be able to get another one for a couple weeks. Uh, why am I here? Oil change wound up being more than twice as much as everywhere else, even WITH a coupon.
Took it back a second time to fix the ignition switch. I cannot be sure this was fixed, as they only ever gave me 1 key...wouldn't you get 2 with a new one? However, still had issues with overheating light coming on - something that only started AFTER they "fixed" the problem they found the first time. Had it back at least one more time after that (yep, 3 times in less than 6 weeks) since I wanted them to actually fix the issues they were responsible for. But, turns out, they never found the root of the problem, anyway, as I had to take it to a reputable repair shop even after that.
During the fiasco, numerous phone calls to their switchboard went unanswered - just rang and rang during regular hours. Service manager must be aware of the issue since he gives out his cell number. Picking up my vehicle one day, it was a full 15+ minutes before I was even acknowledged by anyone in the service dept. and they were not busy at that time. Last time I picked up my car, there was trash left in it, including a used Styrofoam coffee cup - eww.
Need I go on...? Like I said, never again.
