  • I was looking to buy a (used) car for my son for his college graduation. My son had picked out a couple of cars to look at. Camelback Ford had his top choice. I was in town for the weekend and his office was right down the street - we were ready to make a deal. I talked to the used car manager. He seemed knowledgable of the car and turned us on to a young sales person to help. Since my wife and I were visiting she had the car at the time so the young sales person offered to come give us a ride to the dealer. Before we got there, another "sales manager" called. He didn't realized I had already spoken to the young sales person and he was quite "salesy". Kind of an awkward moment. When we got there the car was nice but it had some issues: no floor matts, the rear panel to the drivers seat was coming off (unclipped is what they told me but it looked to be more than that) and the arm rest upholstery was torn. I'm an all cash buyer and based upon four other advertised cars of the same make, year and "package" I made an "out the door" offer that I felt was reasonable. Apparently they didn't. After making us wait 20 min. The "salesy" manager come over to strong arm us with used car sales tactics. I asked for counter. He refused and said I was out of line. The salesy manager even noted the deanship was owned by Berkshire Hathaway and he quoted Warren Buffet like he knew him..."Mr. Buffet told me..." Ya, right, like he knows Warren Buffet. We showed the advertisements of the other comparable cars, all at lower pricing. The manager didn't budge and said the other cars were not comparable. He then told us "it's president's day weekend, i'll find someone else willing to pay that price". My son and I left. We went to a dealer in Tempe who had the same make, model and year of car, advertised for $1,000 less than Camelback (one of he ad's we showed Camelback as comparison). it had brand new tires, matts for front back and rear, no torn arm rest and no broken seat panel. It also had a few extra features that Camelback's ... OH AND IT HAD NAVIGATION (which Camelback's car didn't). Within 30 minutes of my arrival at the Tempe dealership we had an agreement on the vehicle - and I started with the same offer to the Tempe dealer that I made to Camelback Ford. My son is extremely happy we walked out of Camelback Ford. Funny thing, Camelback Ford called the next afternoon to see if we would come back to their dealership as their car was still available. I looked tonight and it's still on their web site, so apparently they didn't find a "fool buyer" like they thought they would. CAMELBACK FORD SALES "PROFESSIONALS" PERPETUATE THE NEGATIVE REPUTATION OF CAR SALESPERSONS. Which is unfortunate as not all car sales persons are that sleezy. STAY AWAY from Camelback Ford. (I wish I had read their other yelp reviews before we waisted out time).
