  • Confession: I'm a Pure Barre client. I decided to try Bar Method out when they offered a free teacher-in-training class as I wanted to compare it to Pure Barre. Had a hard time finding the location at first before realizing it was upstairs. Not a big deal. If you're unfamiliar with barre workouts I can attest to the fact that they're a fantastic workout and that you will see results. However, the format can be a bit overwhelming when you first get started so go into it knowing there's going to be a learning curve. First impression is that the Bar Method location is that it's a very nice facility. They have two barre rooms and a really nice locker room with a shower (PB does not have a shower and only one small bathroom). The carpet is way more plush than at PB and they had a lot of different foam pieces to use during abs that were unfamiliar to me. They also didn't have the resistance bands that I'm used to (they had straps for stretching but I didn't see actual bands). The biggest difference I found is that the instructor will call everyone out individually for corrections. I'm not a fan of this. For one thing they seemed to correct every little thing and half the time I had a hard time understanding what I was being told to correct. I'm used to having an instructor come over to you individually to tell you as well as guide you into the right position if needed. I met the owner and she's incredibly nice as were all the instructors I met. They offer a $99 first month into offer and then from there it's very standard barre pricing that you see at all the barre studios in the area. Individual class prices are not cheap. They had a children's area and I believe that they offer childcare at certain times for an extra cost. All that being said, I found a lot of similarities to what I'm used to but I felt like PB offers a better workout and a more enjoyable class experience. Bar Method definitely wins as far as how nice their facility is but I just can't get past the individual corrections and how horribly distracting they are during class. I also want to know that I'm getting the best burn I can for my time spent so I'll be continuing to go to PB for now.
