  • An ultra high end resort perfect for a weekend escape. The more we travel, especially for leisure, the more my wife and I gravitate toward smaller, more intimate and unique properties and the Royal Palms was exactly what we were hoping for. We booked a "designer casita" which featured a comfy 4-poster bed, beautiful gas fireplace (turns on with a remote), large bathroom with a massive walk-in shower, a totally private walled courtyard in back and two large wing chairs. Normally a fireplace wouldn't make much sense in warm and sunny AZ but we were unlucky to have two solid days of rain during our late February visit so the cozy fireplace was on a lot-not for heat, but ambience. While we weren't able to enjoy lounging by the pool, we did spent some time exercising in the modest fitness center (mostly tread mills with a few free weights and a couple of weight machines) and even sat in the bubbling outdoor hot tub in the light rain. One afternoon we had a drink in the cozy hotel bar as well which was a nice relaxing spot. Besides the very beautiful grounds featuring artful touches throughout, one of the standout features of this property is the strong service culture. Parking is Valet only but we never waited more than a minute for our car and there was always plenty of cheerful staff waiting to retrieve the car. Another plus is that tipping is ALREADY INCLUDED in the $31 daily resort fee so no need to travel with a pocketful of ones. In addition our greeting at checkin was fast, efficient and friendly and we even were given a glass of sparkling wine. One of the bellmen/valet took us on a brief walking tour of the compact property before guiding us to our nearby room. While I wish we could have spent some time soaking up the sunshine, our visit at Royal Palms was restful, quiet and peaceful at this outstanding property. Can't wait to return but hoping for better weather!
