This quaint little establishment is located just off the downtown square. We had 1:00pm reservations on a Thursday. This was our first experience and my mom was visiting from Chicago.
We waited for everything. They must have been short staffed this day. Once we were seated, our waitress went over the daily specials and asked for our order. We barely had time to look at the menus. She never asked if this was our first visit and she acted almost like we were an inconvenience. She left us in a quandry and did not return to take our tea order for almost 10 minutes. We placed our tea order and we did not see her again for another 10 minutes, where at that point the tea water was just warm upon delivery. After another wait, she came back and took our order and it was 20 minutes before we got our food.
We had ordered tea sandwiches and they were overstuffed and hard to eat. The chicken and tuna salad sandwiches tasty, with just the right amount of mayonnaise and seasoning. The last sandwich was a cheese pimento. It did not have a cheesy taste and it was too much for the sandwich. We had to take half of it off. The strawberry pretzel salad was a throw back to my childhood. It was incredible; sweet, strawberry, salty...all my favorites.
Our Waitress came over a few times to ask us how we were doing, but never stuck around long enough to get our response as we always had food in our mouths. At the near end of the meal, a hostess (perhaps??) delivered our bill and told us to pay at the gift shop counter.
I did not mention that most the tables needed to be bussed when we walked in and were still that way when we left. My mom's tea pot was badly chipped (maybe it was supposed to be that way).
I am reluctant to try this place again since it is a distance from where I live, but I am thinking this had to be a fluke of a visit. I was so embarrassed for the restaurant and I was embarrassed I took my mom there without trying it myself first.
