  • Nigh on three years ago when I first moved to this city of ridiculous heat and eclectic food trucks, finding a gym was my first priority, aside from donating all my winter clothes and purchasing sunblock for the first time in my life. So I began my search, touring gyms of all walks, creeds and price ranges. The task was monumental, for I had severely underestimated how many there were, and they all had different cliques to be part of. Did you know crossfit is expensive? Like, an extra car payment expensive. Some gyms are super cheap, but they serve pizza at the front desk and throw people people like me out. Others are elitist and cost more than crossfit. The list would go on but I would further digress. So after weeks of discouragement I wander into this place, the only one of it's name, family owned joint, two stories and no pizza! I sign the clipboard, get the tour, make the appropriate ooohs and ahhhs over the giant swimming pool and the Jacuzzis and tanning beds (I think those are gone now) and finally we head upstairs to where the weights are at. I could hug the tour guide. It's not crowded, the equipment is all encompassing, clean and maintained. Treadmills, bikes and stairmasters. Also, it's not crowded! They also have a giant room where people do yoga and zumba or whatever the new thing is now. There is also punching bags in there but it's frowned upon to get after those during yoga class. So I took the leap and here 3 years later, I still visit this place almost every day. And now there's a guy that makes shakes and wraps and salads and stuff. Some people are concerned about whether the staff at places are overly nice and make you feel special and stuff, I'm not. That being said, everyone there is friendly and always says hello and even remembers names. And it isn't even expensive. Congrats if you made it to the end, apologies for the length. TL;DR it's lit fam, join up.
