So far, only 60 acres of the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden have been developed out of a total of 460 acres. The garden was founded in 1988, but it took many years to raise millions of dollars, to remove invasive plant species and plant native ones, and to clean up acid discharge from coalmines. I am sure that the garden will look even more beautiful once it is finished in many more years. The employees and volunteers at the garden were welcoming and warm. I enjoyed walking around the tree-lined trails, although they do not take very long to walk. My favorite parts to see were the gazebo, pond, and bird's nest. The setting was a peaceful escape from urban life. There is a reasonable admission charge, which is reduced by $1 if you are a resident of Allegheny County.
