| - What does it say that I could swear I've reviewed this place before?
I've passed by Golden Mint a million times on my way to one office or another, walking from Dundas to Bloor and back.
I often think about stopping by; giving what seems to be a pleasant indie coffee shop (before they sprang up everywhere) business instead of the local Starbucks. Or the local TIm Hortons. Or the local 7-11.
I rarely do, even though the place promises cheap eats and a relaxed atmosphere suitable for people watching (generally things I look for in a downtown haunt). Matybe it's the acid yellow walls, or the GIGANTIC copper esprosso machine dominating the counter (from which I don't think I've ever seen an espresso actually pulled), or the fact that I often have somewhere to be, and value consistency in the middle of a workday.
Still, one day i cross the threshhold.
Service is pleasant, if distracted. My order is simple. The strongest coffee they have; second-biggest size, in the largest cup.
I am told this is forbidden, or I have to be upcharged for wanting room for milk.
That's two stars off right there.
The coffee itself is a dark roast, almost burnt, brewed deadly strong.
It's fine, but I've had better. Especially since the staff keep shooting me dirty looks when I sit down with my purchase for a few minutes' relaxation before heading back to the office.
All told, i won't likely be back.
