| - We bought a GroupOn for a 20 point inspection and a pound of coolant. The GroupOn is just a bait and switch! The tech got to the house and said we needed coolant, and that 2 capacitors were bad. He said the GroupOn didn't cover it, and we had to pay a $75 service charge, plus parts. They installed the 2 parts and added 2 pounds of coolant. The bill was about $700, and he still needed to come back the next day to complete the work.
We asked to keep the boxes for the capacitors, as they both were about $260 a piece. A simple search on the web and we found them both for less than $50 shipped. Now I get they need to mark up things to make sure the company can make money, but a 600% markup on parts that took the guy less than an hour to test and install? It seemed excessive to us.
The tech came back the next day (Saturday) and I told him about the huge mark up, and that I would be willing to pay a fair price for the parts, if not we wanted the 2 capacitors he installed taken out and we wanted our money back. He had to call the office and get it approved. He came back and said he was taking them out and the office would call first thing Monday.
Guess what, they didn't call Monday, I had to call many times to finally get the issue resolved. I wouldn't use them again. A little honesty and business ethics would go a long way, but I am sure many companies run things this way.
The GroupOn is just a way to get them in the door, so they can charge you crazy money and claim whatever they would do isn't covered by the GroupOn.
Buyer beware!
