Hopefully the "Whaambulance" is working because I might be in need of a ride to the ER from this sugar & carb overload!
Hurts Don'ut? They ain't kidding!
Their strawberry donut alone is 3x the size of a regular donut from most places!
Hurts offers a great variety of all kind of donut delights: cakey, yeasty, cinnamon rolls, fritters and more, that are adorned with a variety of toppings. These donut creations feature fun names like Slim Shady (topped with m&m's), Cookie Monster (the resemblance is uncanny), Cereal Killer (topped with - you guessed it - different breakfast cereals) and so many more.
Sadly I found that most of the donut we tried were just too sweet for me.
Also the ratio of fillings to dough seems to be off. Filling is my jam...literally. It's usually a jammy (or custard) type substance and what can set a particular donut apart from others. So fill it up and don't be stingy! Considering how colossal these donuts are one would expect the filling to match and be bursting at the seams. Unfortunately it took multiple bites through dough before even reaching filling.
The shop itself is clean and very spacious with plenty of seating. The staff could use more training (it was more than a little chaotic when we went and we had to correct the employee a couple times on which donut was being placed in the box -- not sure if they can see the donut names in their side of the counter).
SIDE NOTE: The building appears to have a window that could be used as a drive-thru which would be nice for late night or early morning donut drives.
While I appreciate Hurts Donut creativity and the fact they are open around the clock or as they say "25/8", the excessive sweetness and the lack of a good amount of filling has left me without much of a desire to stop back into the shop anytime soon, but I would return to try out a few more of the flavors on a day when I feel like a little donut pain.
