  • I was a long standing member of 24 Hour Fitness; and happy there too. When LaFitness bought out my gym I was frustrated but I tried to keep an open mind. I desperately wanted it to work out because I have friends and a support network who transfered when 24 Hour Fitness closed. My first impression was, the staff cared less about making you feel welcome. I had to finally ask where the locker rooms and pool were, I had to ask about how the sign in worked and how to apply the account to my phone. It felt like a real imposition for her to tell me there was an app I could install. Pushing that aside; I loved the aqua aerobics class. Barbara was amazing. She made it incredibly fun. I got a real workout from it. The group was friendly enough. At this point I could have been happy with LaFitness. The sauna and steam rooms were clean enough. Going back into the locker rooms and shower area I was appalled by the filth. The floor was disgusting, the showers had black mold, and these tiny grey bugs were in the grout. This was a huge disappointment! While mentioning this might have resolved the problem there were other issues that made me generally unhappy with the transition to LaFitness. My husband decided after not attending the gym in several months decided to cancel his membership. He joined 24 Hour Fitness the same time I did. We never signed a contract with LaFitness. He called and told them over the phone he would not be renewing his membership. The person on the phone never mentioned the need to go in to a gym and speak to a manager to cancel. So after a few days he began to receive phone calls EVERY 2 hours every day over the course of 3 weeks. Because, apparently his request to cancel his membership from a gym he didn't originally sign up with never was processed. His increasing aggravation resulted in my complaint to a manager who could not have been more rude or cared less. I made my complaint about the dirty showers and changing area while he continued to greet incoming members. This only half listening behavior continued while I explained my husband's frustration. He only waved the charges "incurred " on my husband's account after I mentioned we never signed contracts with LaFitness. My illusions of the gym caring about customer satisfaction were shattered; my first impression was correct. It was at this point I decided to cut my losses and look for a new gym.
