| - First time at a hostel! This hostel virgin had no idea what to expect from a hostel except a place to sleep. The Hostel Cat set the bar to which any future hostels will have to compare.
First of all, location location location. The location of the Hostel Cat is convenient and crappy. Ok ... so it's literally 5 mins from the strip or Fremont St, that's convenient; however, if you're the type (like I did) to judge a book by its cover, you're going to drive right by and say eff this, cuz the location is in this nasty abyss of ghetto and homelessness....
BUT DONT DO THAT! Give Hostel Cat a fair shake!
Ok so park your car (woo hoo free parking) enter the gate and ring the bell... there!! You've just entered the most laid back fun chill environment in Vegas... so so meet the receptionist, pay the cost for 1 night (for two people my friend and I paid like $70.. included towel charge $1 and two key deposits $10ea) FYI WE STAYED ON A SATRUDAY NIGHT... in Vegas on a Saturday that was a deal!!
There's an awesome common area, cubbies for your stuff, two places to sit chill eat watch tv...
The rooms are basic, 6 or 10 to a room, with bunk beds and a shared bathroom. They supply clean sheets and pillowcases at check in, and the bed has a blanket and pillow. The mattress is protected from creepy crawlies (this was a concern... but it looked good upon close inspection).
They have nightly activities and have a pool deal with the nearby Stratoshphere hotel in the summer. On our night, they were taking a party bus to Bank at Bellagio. For $25 it was all you could drink on the bus (vodka & orange soda) plus entry into the club. We got to be up close and person with our fellow hostels.. people from Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Germany. We had a blast!!
Staying at a hostel isn't exactly the Ritz Carlton, but it's an experience I will never forget!!
No pesky resort fees. No parking charges!!
Highly highly recommend!!!
