  • Scottsdale Gun Club helped me to lose a solid four hours of my vacation. DO NOT USE THEM! I got there 15 minutes after opening (when I had been advised crowds would be smaller) with the intent of renting 2 machine guns on vacation with my sons. I had to drop my wife and daughter off shopping, head back there and proceeded to wait 1.75 hours for a lane, only to have 7 members be placed directly ahead of me at that point-and no guarantee it wouldn't happen again. We gave up at that point, and a once in a lifetime opportunity was gone. We saw many people waiting and many people leave. We were also shocked and amazed at the pricing of ammunition and accessories which far surpassed the premium of other ranges. It should be noted that when we got there, the counter staff was not knowledgable and apathetic. While we waited (standing, even though apparently this happens often)-the staff was also apathetic and the aforementioned wanna-be range officers made some interludes into the lobby while registering their displeasure with having to deal with the crowds. All I can gather is that the staff is either underpaid, or not liking their jobs or that the regular members had paid such a crazy price that SGC didn't care a lick about non-members. Now mind you, we were going to drop $300+ to shoot 2 full auto guns for a maximum of 15 minutes. It's too bad, really, because the facility is very nice but the staff an pricing are horrific. A parting comment from one of the wanna-be's when I asked for my ID-"you should come during the week". Instead of this place I would highly recommend Calibers in Albuquerque, where the staff was nice and courteous. Another place to try would be Kingman, AZ, where we were told by a good source that many exotic full auto guns could be fired.
