| - This place is pretty cool. We've been there about a half-dozen times and love it. We usually grab some lunch first and then do our shopping and I encourage everyone else to do so.
They have a big salad bad and a big hot foods bar. The one in Shadyside has a better salad bar (more on that later). But the Shadyside one doesn't have the hot bar.
This time on the hot bar, they had wings, chicken tenders, kielbasa, pierogies, haluski, hot sausage, baked cod, pasta with meatballs, marinara and meatsauce, fried chicken, roast chicken, roast beef and some chicken dish. Probably some other stuff I'm forgetting. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach and I always want to try everything. Don't get too ambitious, though. They charge you by the pound and if you pile it on like its a buffet, its going to cost you.
Keep in midn this is how the salad bar is, too. Its real easy to fill the salad containers up and make a $10 salad...especially if you like to drown your
The only issue here is that the food is never as hot as it should be. By the time you pay for your stuff, go upstairs, find a seat, silverware and some napkins...the food's ice cold. This has happened every time I've been there....they really need to figure out something because eating a cold hot sausage is no fun.
In addition to the hot/cold bar...there's about seven or eight stations where you can order a meal. There's sandwiches, salads, BBQ, stir-fries, sushi, crepes, pizza and one that has a little bit of everything. We've tried everything except the crepes. This time, we got a pizza and BBQ. The portions are always large, the cooks are always friendly and they go out of their way to give you a sample. I asked the guy if the ribs were babybacks and he gave me two to sample! They weren't babybacks but they were still good. I got three large chunks of roast sirloin, about 12 oz. of smashed potatoes and a big cup of cole slaw. All for $7 (plus the two free ribs)!
The pizza was good. Its hand-tossed and baked in a fire oven and it cost $4. Our 2 year old loved it. We also got a salad and some veggies for our daughter. With the hot and cold bar, its real easy to just grab a few little delicacies for your little ones and its not going to cost you much. Its already cut up for them, too. This place is great for kids.
The same problem with the hot bar with the temperature applies to the food stations, too. By the time you get your meal to your table, its always cold.
The grocery side of the store is pretty cool. They pretty much have everything. The Shadyside store is smaller but it has a greater variety. I don't know how this is possible but I prefer shopping at the Shadyside one more because of this reason. Their food selection isn't as large, however...and I prefer eating at the Settler's Ridge store.
Like I said, this place is pretty cool. My only complaint is the temperature of the food.
