| - I've had two big, cheap Sentry-brand safes sitting around sealed-up for years now. One I never knew the combo to, and the other had the batteries for the electronic keypad die & I was TOO STUPID to see that you could change the battery from the outside of the safe.
After hauling them around with me to several different homes in different states, and wondering what the hell was in the one that I found locked & abandoned, I finally decided to stop by Gene's & talk to them about opening them, if for no-other reason, to then be able to dispose of them & free-up some space in my house.
The young locksmith guy was very friendly & gave me several options, including that I could pay him nothing, and just change the batteries on both, open one with the combo that I knew, and with the other, I could actually call Sentry & get an override code, giving them the model & serial #!
I ended up having them use brute-force to open one of the safes, and it was pretty educational & annoying (since I paid $200+ for it) to see how quickly he got in. I was only charged $10!
For the other safe, I took his advice & got it opened on my own via contacting Sentry.
A great, small & family-owned business that I hope I can continue to support.
