| - Unfortunately the only item we tried was the pizza. The other diners in the restaurant looked very much like they were enjoying other dinners, their pastas looked beautiful, and I overheard the server they make their bread from scratch. If they also make the pizza doughs at the location, then they must be very good- as the pizza was outstanding. We ordered the pizza Margherita and the pizza "diavolo". Diavolo means "devil": spicy, and it was, but not so much it was inedible. Wonderful, wonderful pizzas and I could taste every wonderful herb. The basil was tiny bits, not whole leaves, I wished I had tasted more basil however. Some places over-do the garlic, not on this pizza. I could taste and see the olive oil, but olive oil is good for you! The diavolo pizza reminded me very much of harissa- perhaps the red pepper and olive oil which harissa is made from gave me that flavor. The crust had that lovely burnt edge to it that tells me it was baked in a real pizza oven.
The service is impeccable! Smiling, observant yet discreet servers, always arriving at just the right time- never an annoyance nor do they "disappear". Our server seemed to magically appear whenever we needed her. We took a look at their pizza wood-fired oven, and their nice bar. Sorry no wine review, we only had soda.
The diners were dressed rather.. shall we say, "casual". Perhaps that's a Phoenix thing? I think in jeans we were the best dressed there, which is a pity. Not the restaurant's fault at all. The place is lovely, a bit sparse. I think the large plant inside was plastic.. it's all right as the atmosphere had a pleasant night dining sort of feel. Some older people there but that's probably due to the Cave Creek location and the day/hour we went (Sunday late afternoon)
The restaurant is in the Cave Creek area, in the corner lot where Barro's is.
The bar area had a few large TVs in case the man you're with doesn't want to miss the game while you're out to dinner, hee hee.
I'd recommend Amoro's, and next time I'd like to try some of their pasta and hopefully the misto, which I stupidly passed on ordering this time!
