  • I went the The Boulders because my work team chose this as a place for our staycation for the year. I love staycations and I was really looking forward to this one as I am 7 months pregnant and thought it would be a nice "babymoon" for my husband and myself. First of all, we got there and had to walk quite a ways in the AZ summer heat to the lodge. There were several employees that drove by us unpacking the car in the lot who drove past in golf carts and did not acknowledge us or offer to drive us where we needed to go. After we checked in we had an employee take us to our room which was a good 15 minute walk away, so you HAVE TO take the carts. The employees driving the carts were all quite nice when we were able to get one to help us. They were so busy carting everyone around that it often took a while. We decided to go swimming and were super disappointed by the pool situation as well. There were two pools that we were informed about: the "big pool" by the lodge and the spa pool. The "big pool" was tiny by AZ resort standards and there was terrible outdoor service. If you really wanted food or a drink you were better off going inside the lodge. There were also very few seating options and all of them were taken by the time we had gotten there. After about 10 minutes and finally getting food in the lodge we decided to check out the spa pool. It was also quite small and had terrible service (took 45 minutes for my husband to get 1 beer) but at least there were places to sit/lay out. I felt a bit silly because it seemed like a very "zen" area and so we were whispering the entire time we were out there. All in all I give the pools about a -5 out of 5. FINALLY, the room. Oh the awful room. It was infested with bugs. It was outdated. The fan was on a setting where it would either be on full blast in the opposite direction it is supposed to be going, or off. You could argue that I just didn't know how to work the control on the wall by the AC, however, I have these Minka fans with said remotes at my house. They were either not working properly or just had a funky setting. The room was hot and the AC didn't help much. It sounded like the people above us were likely going to break through into our room at some point. Oh and they gave us a room with TWO FULL BEDS so hubs and I got to sleep separately. JOY! This belly, my hubby and I are not fitting in one tiny full bed. That just doesn't work. Anyway, I called the front desk to try and get moved to a king room (which I had requested previous to my stay) and they told me that everyone in our group was given full beds and that was just the package that we signed up for. I checked with my co-workers that night at dinner and we were 1 of 2 couples in the group that didn't get king-size beds. Bad luck, maybe, but complete BS that they lied to me when I called in. They said they couldn't move us because the resort was full. Anyway, because of all of these lovely things I would never stay at this resort again and I will CERTAINLY never recommend it to anyone EVER! It was a waste of my weekend.
