| - I was really excited to try this Charlotte staple. I've lived in Charlotte for so many years and I always overlook this little spot. After my office had some food catered from Pikes, it stuck in my head to give it an in person try. On Sunday craving brunch with little diner type spots to choose from, I decided on Pikes. With a a price tag of 14.00 for brunch, I was expecting to be blown away. Blown away I was not. Around noon we were seated right away however, our waitress seemed less than thrilled to be working. she wasn't rude, but not attentive and you could just tell she didn't want to be there. Hey, maybe it was an off day.
On to the food... despite what the sign in our booth said, Mac and Cheese isn't served on Sunday ( disappointment) My sister ordered a bare bones cheese burger and it was just okay. Thrown on the plate with some chips- not very appetizing especially for a place that calls themselves a soda shop...? really, that's how you present a burger?
On to the brunch, there was lot to choose from, but everything was just fine. The biscuits were cold, the scrambled eggs were bland and the potato casserole was drowning in cheese that you couldn't taste potato. The eggs benedict did look good, but I didn't try that. We sampled some of the desserts and those didn't disappoint. Next time I'm looking to drop 15-20 bucks on brunch, I would much rather go to Terrace Cafe or Toast. Pikes, I wanted to love you so so much, but I left very disappointed. *** with all that said, I will go back one more time and order off the lunch/ dinner menu, maybe that will change my opinion.
