| - AURA AT MIDTOWN IS UNSAFE FOR RESIDENTS AND YOUR VALUABLES ARE AT RISK OF THEFT. I hate giving negative reviews therefore i have provided a lengthy justification.
I lived at Aura since October 2017 and have since physically moved out. I am a professional, licensed realtor and a real estate investor. Real estate IS my profession so there is substance in what i convey here. We moved to Aura between real estate investments. My husband is a physician. I share these details with readers so that it is understood that we are not posting without purpose. Peoples safety and there property is my concern. I encourage you to read my other reviews, they are thoughtful, respectful and honest. I encourage Yelpers to read ALL the other negative reviews about Aura, you will find a clear pattern for lack of concern for residents and failure to be transparent.
Aura claims that they are not aware of safety issues related to loiterers and theft, this is disingenuous. They are aware of problems related to loitering and theft, they simply have chose not to share the information with their residents. Residents have the right to know about safety issues and events occurring in their apartment building.
Furthermore, The leasing office has said that they are under no obligation to inform residents about safety concerns therefore i have taken on the responsibility to share facts, information and allow people to be informed.
1. There have been TWO incidents where homeless people have been found LIVING on the property. One person was found in a vacant apartment. Marcelo a previous employee and I had numerous conversations about this. A second person was found LIVING in the exercise room, Marcelo had to remove him off the premises.
2. It is a common occurrence that residents find loiterers sleeping in the laundry rooms. I have seen two leaving the laundry room and called 911 on one occasion. One other resident was approached by a man when it was raining requesting that she open up the laundry room for him.
3. The back alley parking spaces are unsafe. Half the lights are not in working order and have not been replaced. One evening i parked and nearly tripped over a man, my daughter grabbed to keep me from falling on him. It's so dark and he was all in black that it was difficult to see him. That was in December, it is March and no new light bulbs as of yet. The parking in the alleyway is unsafe.
4. The apartment backs up on a alley way, therefore there is a constant flow of loiterers rummaging in all the trash bins (approx 6 large dumpsters). This constant flow of loiterers is what makes the apartment susceptible to theft. One resident had his work tools stolen out of the back of his truck bed, another told me she had the window of her car broken and items stolen.
5. On one occasion i found a couple sitting on the back stairs ON the premises. When i shut the gate closed he jumped over the fence and INTO Aura building. They were driving around on a bike looking into apartments and parked cars.They both appeared to be impaired by drugs. I called 911. When i described my observations to the officer he deduced that they were scouting out apartments and cars for burglary. He asked that i encourage residents to call 911 so they can patrol often. I immediately shared my experience with Aura and they did not inform residents.
6. I finally gave our 30 day notice when an encampment with at least 8 homeless individuals moved in on the east side of the alley way on an empty lot. The alley way is unsafe with debris, bottles and people sleeping.
Aura has willfully chosen to not inform residents of all facts related to incidents that have occurred ON premises. Signs were posted requesting residents to close gates until gates completely lock, yet the residents did not receive a clear understanding as to why closing the gates was wise. those signs went up, to help keep loiterers out who are sleeping or attempting to sleep in laundry rooms, in vacant apartments and on the premises.
If you live at Aura i encourage you to dial 911 and make police reports when you witness homeless individuals on the premises or if you have been a victim of theft. that is the instruction the officer gave me when i dialed 911. If you are a resident at Aura, email and complain. The argument posed to me by the leasing office was that i was the only one "complaining". Your safety is of upmost importance, make sure the office and other employees understand this. Talk with other residents, share your experiences.
If you are considering moving to Aura, don't do it, there are other safer apartment communities. i have posted a picture for reference to some of the many safety issues related to renting at Aura at midtown.
