| - So, I want to preface this by saying that your opinion will be greatly impacted by how much you value this type of experience. Cheesy, over-the-top, semi "exclusive" pop-up bars are right up my alley, but if this isn't your thing, Miracle is not going to be worth it to you. It's just not. Alrighty then, let's get to it!
The concept of the "Miracle on..." pop-up bar started a few years back in NYC, and most if not all locations are actual regular bars that have been Holiday-ified. Miracle on Liberty is the only (or at least, one of the only) one that took an empty space (this used to be Dreamery Creamery) and transformed it into what could only be described as a tacky holiday sweater that vomited everywhere. I LOVE the kitschy aspect of the place. The decor is absolutely over the top with Christmas and Hanukkah junk covering every inch of the interior. The space itself is pretty small, which I love. It kind of reminds me of Bar11 if it were smaller and Christmas-themed.
We went on 12/9, when the hype was still pretty fresh. There was a line to get in and they explained that there was an issue with their permit, so they were only allowed to let in 15 (!!!!) people at a time. To combat this.. they were limiting each patron to two drinks each, in hopes that this would cycle people in and out faster. They also offered free shots to those of us in line to keep us 1) warm and 2) happy. My group of three decided that we did in fact want to wait it out, expecting 20-30 minutes at most. We were in line for AN HOUR. So.. if you're not committed to the experience, you're going to be super annoyed. I'm hoping the permit issue was fixed so that there isn't an insane wait anymore, but on a positive note it was nice to be in a bar that wasn't totally packed to the brim.
They also discounted all cocktails from $12 to $8. To be honest, I probably would have paid full price without complaining. $12 is high for Pittsburgh, but I've paid that for a craft cocktail here before and I'm sure I will again. The drinks were on point! Among my group, we tried the Chrismopolitan (Holiday take on a Cosmo), Old Fashioned (with Becherovka, which is apparently super trendy right now), Bad Santa (Carribean-esque drink made with almond milk and garnished with a pineapple chip) and Yippie Ki Yay Mother F****r! (LOTS of rum). Each drink was very well-crafted and served either in a branded glass or an adorable Santa mug. Another kitschy touch which we really enjoyed!
All in all... I am so glad that we went. It's only here until New Year's Eve and it was a very fun experience. Yes, the wait to get in was way less than ideal, but you could tell that the staff felt terrible about it and they were doing their best to make it right. If you're a holiday enthusiast with a love for all things tacky, it's totally worth it to check this place out!
