| - I don't often write bad reviews, but I am beyond disturbed by some of the unhygienic things I've experienced while getting pedicures and manicures at Polished. I now have severe toenail fungus.
For my last pedicure, the water was lukewarm to cold in the foot bath, and techs kept walking by without even asking if it was okay. It was a particularly busy day, so I just brushed it off and asked them to add hot water about 10 minutes later when someone finally asked it I wanted a drink (a nice perk is that Polished offers wine and beer to clients). After waiting close to 20 more minutes, a nail tech finally comes over to do my pedicure. She grabs some balled up, wet, and previously used gloves and begins to turn them right side out. Ew! I try to explain to her that using those gloves is not okay. I kindly explain that I am not comfortable with her used the dirty gloves. There's a language barrier (no big deal), and another tech steps in to help and tells her not to use those gloves. So the pedicurist decides not to use any gloves at all! Then, I felt terrible that she didn't protect herself! While the pedicure was a bit rushed thereafter, my toes looked great!
Fast forward to a few weeks later (hadn't had time to stop by for another pedicure), I begin to remove my polish at home. To my horror, there's toenail fungus at the EXACT line where the polish was. Ack. Thank goodness I had a doctor's appointment the next day already, and my physician prescribed a topical anti-fungal polish. I now can't paint my toes for weeks (even at home), and I would never ever go to a salon and put others at risk until it is 100% cleared up. This is particularly unfortunate since it's the holiday season.
Also, I usually get a pretty good looking and quick gel manicure. But recently, they've stopped putting the orange stuff in the little bowls with water for manicures! This last time, the water in the bowl was freezing cold - just plain, cold water for 15 minutes! Also, the other nail tech tried to reuse someone else's acetone soaked cotton balls inside the little finger clips (to remove gel polish). She tried to just add more acetone and stick my fingers in there!
Needless to say, I'll definitely be looking for a more hygienic salon that cares about the customer's health.
