  • We took my dad to dinner here for his birthday. There were only 6 of us, and it was a Sunday evening - not too busy, but they seemed to be understaffed. We were able to be seated immediately, which was nice. All of the staff was very friendly. Those are about the only positive things I can say about our experience. We all ordered appetizers. When the waitress brought them out she admitted that she had forgotten to put my dads order of stuffed mushrooms in. Actually, she didn't even remember what he had ordered so we had to tell her again. My appetizer was Cajun shrimp, which was WAY over seasoned. I couldn't even see the shrimp underneath the thick crust of Cajun seasoning. It was at least 1/4" thick, and had to be scraped off. But there was so much that I couldn't even taste the shrimp at that point, only crusty dry chunks of seasoning. My sister ordered oysters. She said they were not shucked/cleaned correctly, so there was grit in her oysters. My dads stuffed mushrooms finally arrived well after salads. They didn't discount them or take them off the bill or anything, which I find annoying since the waitress admitted she completely forgot them and they arrived about 30 minutes after they were ordered. As for our meals, it was a series of mediocrity and mistakes. My steak, which was ordered medium, was served well, as was my fathers. I chose to send mine back, which meant I got my steak after everyone had already finished their meals. My lobster tail was chewy and the "stuffing" in it was not very good. My father said his scampi was "okay". My sister ordered the Pasta Di Mare - which she said was basically pasta covered in olive oil, which was largely bland and unseasoned, instead of a wine sauce. My other sister had the crab cakes, which she said were bland and dry. My brother in law had the lobster roll, which seemed to be the winner of the night. He said it was decent. Not great, but decent. My sisters fiancĂ© ordered the seafood stew and he described the sauce as "milk, with old bay seasoning in it." He said it was "gross". The mashed potatoes were great, everyone agreed on that. I did see my sister pull a hair out of her salad dressing. I also had a big ol fly land, twitching, right by my plate as I was moving my steak. I could have sworn it popped out from under the wilted piece of lettuce that my steak was served on...but my sister said she didn't think so. She killed it with a napkin since it seemed it was in the throes of death already. The bathrooms were disgusting. This is probably the worst review of a restaurant I've ever written. I feel bad because our waitress was really nice... But this place was just awful. I probably should give it one star, but I felt like the waitress was really trying her hardest to give us a good experience. I feel worse because now we need to take my dad out to another dinner to make up for this - he is not a complainer but I could tell he was disappointed. We will not go back and will not recommend Roland's.
