| - This massive pool complex (and lazy river) wonderfully compliments the MGM Grand. The pool complex sits behind the hotel, so unless you're staying at The Signature suites at MGM, expect a decent walk to get to water - it's not far, but forgetting something in the room was an eight minute walk there and back.
We found a nice spot on the inner island by the lazy river so we could slip into the river from our chairs - which was exactly what the doctor ordered. MGM's is the largest lazy river in Las Vegas - it is both longer and wider than the lazy river at Mandalay Bay - and was both relaxing and fun.
I looked into tube rental before going and opted instead to get a few tubes from Walgreen's (end of summer deal, $3.95 for a lounger chair/tube that sold for $14.95) and brought those with us to Vegas. (On our last day we passed them onto another couple that were staying for a few days longer. PLEASE NOTE: I called MGM before to make sure we could bring own own flotation and was told we could, but it MUST BE ROUND. Ours were "round-ish,"loungers (not proper round inner tubes but MGM gave us no problem using them, MGM pool staff even blew up our floats for free - at the same place they were renting inner tubes.)
Spent two days at the pool and on the river, river was AWESOME - a trip around it took about ten minutes, great relaxation. Great way to people watch too...
In the afternoon of the first day, the drunks started to fill the river around 1, and by 2 it was becoming a tad annoying. Thankfully, we didn't have much issue with them outside of one jackass who thought is would be funny to tickle my feet as I sat on the edge of the lazy river - (it was weird, not funny...)
I can definitely say I wouldn't want to be here (or come here) in the prime of summer as other Yelpers have pointed out, since I could easily see the drunks taking over the lazy river as the scene becomes a frat house pool party. Second day (Tuesday) was much more chill and adult-like - as said previous days jackass and drunks were nowhere to be found.
As others have also mentioned, go early and toss some towels on the chair as they open to save your spot.
You don't have to spend a small fortune renting a cabana or daybed as there are many areas around the pool and inner island (the lazy river surrounds) that give you some privacy and distance from the 20-something drunks.
Speaking of which, the drinks here are pricey and while I had a few, frankly, they neither impressed me or gave me so much as a decent buzz.
Food was very good considering and portion sizes great - a chicken tender meal with fries fed two people easily.
Could see this being much more relaxing (and fun for the family) in September when all the drunk college kids go back to school.
