| - When the phrase "land of enchantment" was created, I swear it was invented to describe the Desert Botanical Garden.
We've made several visits and finally became members because taking a stroll through the garden isn't a one-time activity. This is a place you can, and will want to visit, more than once. There are numerous themed trails you can walk where you learn about the beautiful environment all around us. Rather than it being a dry, bleak, waterless wasteland, the Botanical Garden educates you to appreciate all of the various puzzle pieces that come together to create the Sonoran (and other) desert environments.
There's a focus on birds, butterflies, flowers... in addition to all manner of plants. Of course, there's a huge variety of cacti to learn about. Probably my favorite is the Saguaro condo display that explains all of the critters that can make a cactus a home.
Exquisitely landscaped and laid out, this is a wonderful place to just chill and relax, grab a snack and browse gifts if that's your mood. There's also an art gallery and photography classes.
And let's not forget the annual Luminarias holiday event where the entire place is lit by twinkling lights and you can enjoy a hot cocoa or hot toddy under the stars while listening to first-class live music.
Out of all of the things a local or tourist can do in Phoenix, the Desert Botanical garden is the jewel in the crown.
