| - Be prepared to spend a very LONG TIME there. Easy to get an appt and I was happy to get my hair cut on vacation. Figured this would be great -- I don't go to fancy salons. I go to a budget place at home and have also been to places like SuperCuts, so I had no qualms trying a new place. My hair is shoulder length, thick, with a few long layers. Just wanted an inch off, trim the layers, and a blow dry that puts some flips in. I showed stylist "K" a photo of my hair five times. Later I found she is a level 1, which is fine, but she is also a very very slow stylist. After AN HOUR I was concerned -- she hadn't started cutting anything yet. I had received a super soft hand massage, very soft shoulder massage, and a warm cloth on my face. Once she started cutting I got REALLY worried. She combed each small strand of hair very very very slowly and then gently clipped very slowly. The cutting went very very slow and she almost skipped trimming around my face. The instructor did even out the layers. It was a SOLID TWO HOURS in the salon before the blow dryer came out and I was getting very anxious. I simply NEVER imagined a trim and a blow dry could take so long. Stylists next to us had customers come and go while I sat and prayed it wouldn't take much longer. "K" got out the round brushes, which helps get the smooth finish and the flips. I could see she had NO SKILLS with them -- she was simply drying my hair simply straight. Showing her the photo five times meant nothing. I was feeling upset because my hair was looking nothing like I wanted, I was here FOREVER, and was going to have to go home and do it myself!!! She kept spraying tons of product that made my hair heavier as well -- my hair is thick so it doesn't need that."K" continued blow drying my hair STRAIGHT until I finally butted in that the photo had curls and flips in it. OH, would you like some curl in the bottom she asks? Then she kind of flips the bottom under the wrong way, the front still looked like straw because she didn't dry it properly. I felt like crying. Why wouldn't I -- TWO AND A HALF HOURS and I'm going to have to do it over. I finally tell the supervisor -- who had barely stopped by -- that it looks NOTHING like the photo and I'm very unhappy. She offers for another girl to come over and help. I was VERY hesitant because I'd been there for SOOOO LONG and my husband had been waiting. I accepted and was transferred to another chair and put in the hands of TWO experienced students. They re-wet my hair with a spray bottle, got out round brushes, blow dryers and dried it properly in 20 minutes. I thanked them profusely. All told, I was very very upset because I had NO REASON to expect to there almost 3 HOURS for something simple. It was not a difficult hair cut, no coloring, no highlighting. When I tried to mention this issue at the front desk? They don't want to hear anything about it -- they have no time constraints. Maybe so but 1) Stylist "K" will need to speed up to get a job and 2) they certainly need to advise NEW customers it might take 2.5 hours to get hair trimmed and blow dried. NO ONE allows that much time. Be prepared to stay 2+ hours and maybe ask if your student is level 1.
