| - I haven't been back to Miki in probably over a year - not for any particular reason, just because it's kind of out of the way for me and I had other more convenient options elsewhere. I had a good experience my first time here, but noticed some things today which I hadn't originally noticed before.
I was glad to see the prices hadn't changed - $20 for shellac (standard for every place in the mall, but cheaper than most other places outside of the mall.) Maybe I wasn't paying attention last time, or I was just too inexperienced with getting my nails done to notice, but it would be wrong to call the service a manicure. Really it's just a polish change - they'll remove your nail polish (using that machine thing) and rub some cuticle oil on you, but that's about it. No actual cuticle work or buffing or anything else.
The LED light/dryer things were definitely not as clean as I remembered them. The bottoms of the dryers (like where your fingers are touching) were not smooth, and I wasn't sure if that was because they were worn out, or if there was stuff crusted on them... in which case, yuck. I didn't want to make a scene while I was there, but it definitely gave me the heebie jeebies.
In the end, the polish change was super quick and efficient, which I appreciated, and I can't complain about the actual work. I also had a horrible jagged broken nail and the lady did a great job cutting and shaping it so it looks perfect again. Just know though that you're getting what you pay for. Personally, I think I'd rather pay a little extra (say, $30) to get the full manicure experience at a place that seems cleaner and makes me feel more comfortable, but to each her/his own.
