Terrible! As a Canadian who has been living in California for the past six years, I admit that I'm very spoiled when it comes to health food stores. So I know full-well that prices will be crazy and selection will be limited when I travel back to Canada. But nothing prepared me for the horror of shopping at this place!
I arrived five minutes before opening and was surprised to see one little tiny door to get into the place. Judging by the photos on yelp, I expected a pretty substantial market. Once inside, I was pretty pleased with the size of the place and the selection of products. Sadly, my first impression was me being greeted by sad-looking old and wilted produce. It was an absolutely unacceptable state of affairs!
But that was nothing! Next up I hit the dairy section and found most the milk to be marked down to $1...with an expiry date of five days ago!!! The cartons were all bloated and swollen -- clearly needing to be thrown out.
They have no fresh bread. Lame.
I grabbed the basics, as best I could, and headed to the cashier. And that's where things got seriously 1-star. I placed my basket on the counter and started rooting through my purse to find my grocery bags. The woman working there, an older Middle Eastern woman, just stood there staring at me. I finally just looked at her and asked "do you want me to unpack this basket and put it somewhere?", to which she didn't respond. So I asked again as kindly as I could and added "sorry I haven't been here before how would you like me to do this. Where would you like me to put the basket?" She still ignored me completely. I finally had to say "excuse me" in a very loud voice and then she finally stopped staring off into the distance and answered me. The fact that she had nothing to do but stand there and was too good to empty my basket while I found my grocery bags was just absolutely unacceptable customer service. To make matters worse, no amount of kindness on my part was enough to get her to smile or be friendly at all. I left the store with not so much as a thank you or goodbye or have a nice day but a bit of a glare and a "get the hell out of my store" attitude.
Sure thing! No problem. Me and my hundreds of dollars that this family typically spends each week on organic and healthy food won't be back.
