Had the pleasure of taking a Desert Dog Hummer tour over Thanksgiving 2010 with my 18 year old daughter during our trip to the Scottsdale, AZ area. I found this trip via Expedia and was very glad that I did.
The tour was a 3 hour experience of total off the road in Tonto Verde National Park that would never of been experienced without Kevin our tour guide and Desert Dog. They put together a terrific adventure and we both enjoyed this very much.
First they have both an Extreme and Normal tour. We took the Normal Tour. Let me tell you that Normal in the national park desert is not any where near driving on the 101 Expressway. We went through river beds, up severe slopes, down severe slopes and through terrain as rugged as it gets. Kevin could not of been any more careful and both his driving and passion and explanation of the desert added and unbelievable amount to the experience.
The beauty of the desert and views were unbelievable. Additionally, it felt like we were 1000 miles away from Scottsdale Road and Camelback Road out in the desert. There were all types of off-the-road vehicles and plenty of individuals working on their target skills. The other two couples with us could not of been better to be with. The vehicle was a 12 passenger or so H1 and it looked like it was a similar vehicle that would be used on safari's in Africa. Amazingly sturdy.
All in all a wonderful way to spend the afternoon immersed in nature. It was well worth the $90/person cost and I would highly recommend to younger and older alike.
