| - So, I wasn't going to do a review because I was kind of ticked off, but here it is months later and I'm still ticked off, so I'm going to share.
I moved to Ohio from Philadelphia, PA about a year and a half ago. I didn't have a haircut the entire time I was here because I have weird hair -- naturally blonde, and therefore, VERY fine and difficult. So I was rather apprehensive about letting a new person cut my hair when it'd taken me so long to find a regular stylist in Philly. But the company that I work for is extremely specific about how you have to look when you're there, and they eventually got fed up with my hair growing and started making me pull it up at work. I feel very self-conscious with my hair pulled up, so I decided it was time to bite the bullet and get it chopped to a length they deemed acceptable.
Since I work in Canton and live in Stow, I couldn't really go off any of the recommendations of my co-workers, because it'd be WAY out of my way. So I did a little research and finally decided to try Salon Hudson. It was a little expensive, but I figured that I was paying for quality, so I put that in the "pro" category.
When I got there, the girl (I'm not going to name names, it's not necessary) sat me in her chair and asked what I wanted to do with my hair. So I gave her the rundown -- which is halfway between what I feel comfortable with and what my company allows. Short in back (cut to the bone that sticks out of my spine from the whiplash I had when I was 18) and near my collarbones in front. A basic A-line cut with lots of layers so my hair doesn't look as sad and limp as it actually is. She expressed a bit of surprise that I was "so specific," which I found odd, but whatever.
Throughout the haircut she'd ask me a question here and there, every single time throwing in that she had to ask because I had been SO specific about what I wanted and she didn't want to mess up. She started to make me feel bad about asking for what I wanted/needed, which is kind of upsetting. It was a little passive-agressive, and being that I ALSO work in customer service and in the beauty industry, I know that that is an UTTER NO-NO.. but outside of work I'm shy and kind of awkward. So instead of getting mad, I just let her make me feel like a jerk.
At the end, she showed me my hair in the mirror and told me we were done. It looked nice from the front. I felt awkward and just wanted to get away from the situation, so I didn't think to ask her to show me the back. When I got home and looked in the mirror, I found that I had just payed a lot of money and been made to feel bad to NOT get what I wanted -- my hair in back was as long as it was in front. When I got to work they said my hair looked nice and then told me to pull it up because it was still too long.
So.. my experience here was that I was repeatedly told I was too specific, then, for all of my specificness, I wasn't give the right haircut, and now I've had to feel uncomfortable at work for months because of it. I'm going back to Philly next week to visit, and I'll get my hair cut properly there, and hopefully nobody will make me feel like an asshole for telling them what I need done. After that, I have no idea what I'll do. I guess I'll take the recommendations of a friend and go somewhere in Canton, 40 minutes out of my way on a day off. I won't go here again, though.
