  • After the U2 concert, my husband and I decided to grab a late-night snack. We went to America cafe, because it's open 24 hours and we had seen donuts in the storefront earlier when we were checking in at the hotel. We arrived around 11:15 and all the donuts were gone from the display case, not because they were sold, but because they must remove them at a certain time every day? The layout of the restaurant is strange. The room with seating is huge and there is a ginormous 3-D map of America on the wall. It feels very hollow, because it's so large, even though you can tell they are trying to create a fun space. It also looks tired and the decor is...meh. All I really wanted was dessert, but our waiter told me they only had like two of the ten desserts available at that hour. That's pretty weird since they are a 24-hour establishment. Why am I unable to get a slice of chocolate cake at 11:30 p.m.? We ended up ordering appetizers (fries/potato skins) and a brownie sundae. About 30 minutes later, I turned to my husband and said, "If they don't bring us our food in the next five minutes, I am going back to the room and ordering room service instead." It was just crazy. It's not like the place was busy. I don't know if they were short staffed or what. We also saw a few other tables with couples who looked as annoyed as we felt. In fact, one of the husbands at a table near us had asked to speak to a manager and then had a verbal confrontation with him about the slow service. The food was fine. Nothing to write home about. I would recommend going to Starbucks across the lobby or ordering something off the late-night menu from room service before I would ever eat here again.
