| - This was the biggest disappointment of the trip. In the past, regardless of where we were staying, we would eat here at least once per trip. This is not the fanciest buffet, or the most expensive, but Flavors used to provide a good value for the money. I recommended this place to friends, and the six of us went for dinner. We found that the price had gone from the low twenty dollar range up to $36! That puts this middle-of-the-road buffet up in the Paris and Bellagio price range. Well we were here and hungry, so we paid and went in.
After being shown our table, I went directly to the crab legs, the man reason I come here. There were no split crab legs on ice, just a bunch of small I-don't-know-where-these-came-from crabs the size of my fist in a bowl. I was extremely disappointed, but took a plate of them back to the table. The crab was horrible. So small, they were impossible to get any meat out of. Also for $36 I expect the shrimp to be bigger and peeled, but Harrah's has other, lazier ideas.
I went back and got some Italian food, Chinese food, and made a trip to the carving station. The carved turkey was ok, but both the Italian and Chinese offerings were sub-standard, and there were not many selections. The buffet was barely worth half the price.
As far as service is concerned, there is none. In the past, a server would bring glasses of ice water, ask what other drinks (soda, coffee, juice) they could bring, and would clear your plates promptly. In return, we would tip pretty generous for a buffet. In Harrah's brave new $36 world, there was a collection of room temperature bottles of water left haphazard on the table, and you can get you own damn drinks. Because they have installed a Pepsi machine, Harrah's has decided you can juggle that back to your table too. Look, I can get my own drink, but when I pay as much as I did I expect someone to bring it. I also expect someone to take the dirty plates away, but the staff has been cut so low, it's not possible for the overworked staff to do so.
The very worst part of this whole fiasco was the fact that I had recommended this nightmare to other people, based on past meals. I was so embarrassed, I apologized a number of times.
If you look back on my complaints, it's apparent that this was not a one-off bad meal, this is the way they it is all the time. I don't know if Harrah's thinks it's customers are stupid, or if they just want to get one meal out of you before they burn you, but I am not going back. On top of that, I will tell everyone I can what a rip-off this place has become. We are Harrah's/Caesars Total Rewards members, and have been staying exclusively at Harrah's Vegas properties at least once a year. When we are in Lake Tahoe, Reno, or New Orleans we gamble at Harrah's. I feel so burnt by this, the next time we go to Vegas, I will make a point at staying at a MGM/Mirage property, or SLS, or anything that is not Harrah's.
