  • I am a lover of old things and will often visit antique shops just to wander and see what I see. I get it from my grandmother who was an avid collector and visitor of antique/thrift shops and garage sales with her grandchildren in tow. There's just something so fun about finding that special item or great deal! I wish I'd known how awesome the Stoughton Antique Mall was years ago, but I've been making up for it by stopping out every so often and introducing it to friends and family. They're open EVERY DAY from 10:30-5:30, which is a sweet, sweet salve for my random Sunday antiquing itch. The building is an antique in itself. It was once a tobacco warehouse and the structural details are intact and really interesting. From the heavy rafters and pulleys to the huge scale found on the main floor, it's just a neat old building. Add three floors of booth space and that's a LOT of stuff to peruse. The variety is great and the booths are all neat and tidy. It's always frustrating when you visit a shop to find really tacky, junky booths that resemble a garage sale - you won't find that here. There's also enough room to move around without accidentally bumping into anything, another pet peeve of mine in shops like this. Every time I stop by I drool over all the Baltic Amber; some of this will definitely be coming home with me for jewelry projects, if only I could resist the mixed bags of buttons that one vendor sells upstairs. Those babies are going to make some fantastic crafts and accessories! I wish I'd had the $$ for what would have been a perfect upholstered chair for when I crochet, low and armless for my short self and my busy hands. That's not the first larger item I've admired which I've then noticed had left since my previous visit, so clearly this place is popular. One booth on the main floor is comprised of old wooden beer cases and ephemera. There's lots of other stuff for the guys, too. There's a booth with lots of LPs, tons of glassware, furniture, knick-knacks... more than I could list! You'll just have to go check it out for yourself. The staff are all friendly and keep the place sparkling clean. Prices are fair. Last weekend they had fans everywhere to keep the air moving and we chatted and laughed about my, uh, somewhat large button purchase. They recognize their regulars, and that goes really far in my book. No doubt about it, this place is in my regular rotation.
