| - My first visit with Dr Bady went well. I was scheduled first thing in the morning. The visit went well with the exception of learning about my spinal issues, which made me very sad. Both Dr. Bady and the PA that followed him that day had compassion when telling me I was looking at eventual surgery, possibly a four level fusion.
My next appointment was frustrating as I arrived to a waiting (yes, 'waiting' NOT reception) room PACKED! I was on my lunch hour since the doctor has appointments 1 1/2 days a week on each side of town. I did my best to wait, even if it meant a longer lunch, but running an estimated hour behind was a bit too much for me to stand on hard tile (my back problem is triggered by sitting). I was rescheduled for the following week and they fit me in before work.
At that second appointment I was informed about a conservative surgery that could help me but not relieve all of my pain, BUT...Conservative is a good way to start in my book! Dr Bady's scheduling assistant (Terri) came in and BRIEFLY informed me about insurance approval, possible timeline, and that I personally SHOULD NOT call the insurance because as she said it 'holds things up'. Hogwash! I have worked with insurance for years and I personally know that it is me who pays them so as long as I am nice about requests, there is no reason for me not to call. I frequently have my patients call to get things moving at times!
I obeyed her demand until I was in so much pain, I called to make sure my authorization had even been filed. I found it had been, but was denied and in peer review. Then I called Terri, who seemed irritated to even answer the phone, and she told me "it's your job to stay out of pain until I call YOU" meaning, don't bother her or the insurance - she said she was aware I am in pain and she will call as soon as she sees my approval after the doctor calls to appeal my case. I asked if I could take steroids for pain and she said I would have to go to pain management for them. So now, I had to make ANOTHER appointment with a different doctor JUST FOR STEROIDS! Ugh!
After another 10 business days passed, I couldn't take the pain and again, I called because I hadn't heard from Terri. This time, I scheduled an appointment with Dr.Bady to find out if I could have steroid injections again with pain management or if it would mess up my surgery. I had to endure waiting for an appointment and taking a ride across town. When I arrived, I was told by Terri that I did not need to be there because my surgery was approved. Then she scheduled me 5 weeks out!
I arrived at my regular physicians office for pre op tests and blood work to have Dr Chaneys office run around for paperwork because Dr Badys office faxed it to a doctor that isn't even mine! Luckily Dr Chaneys office was able to get a copy of the order even though Terri was not available to take a call from them.
Next stop for surgery was pre-admitting at the hospital. It took a bit of time to get pre-registered they were very thorough but I had discovered that once again, Terri, Dr. Bady's surgery scheduler had not given me info about my brace after surgery. So I went to the office and asked to speak to her. She told me that there was 'a problem' with my surgery that I waited 27 days to have in agony, unable to work and hardly able to walk. Now she told me I was not approved for surgery! Wow! Amazing!! Dr. Bady did take time to speak to me about this mishap. They are currently working on my authorization appeal. BUT, we will see ... So this office staff gets 1 star , Dr Bady gets1 star and we will see how surgery goes for a review revision.
Working in a similar field, and practice management it's the lack of cohesion, training, the right personality blends, and office protocol for "SYSTEMS" that run practices into the ground. A practice is NOT 100% doctor to be a success. Staff has 40-50 % to do with a successful practice. This staff needs a lot to training and systems in place!
