After a better than expected stay at the Courtyard in La Fayette the night before, I was somewhat disappointed in my stay at the Champaign location. If I did not have the stellar experience previous to this stay, this hotel might have gotten 3 stars instead.
I understand this hotel is older, but my less than perfect stay began at the front desk when I checked in. This hotel does face the interstate and I requested a room that faced the opposite direction. Without even looking at the computer, the check in lady tells me that I need to make those requests before 3pm because all the rooms get assigned at that time. I told her that I've never been here before and how the heck was I supposed to know the hotel faced the freeway?? Additionally, does she know that business travel means you usually don't have the opportunity to attend to minute details like that because you were either working all day and/or in transit? Basically, I did not get my request granted but that wasn't the end of things.
Besides the smoke detector needing a battery replacement, the printers down at the business lounge weren't working properly and no one seemed to know how to fix them. I told them to forget it and I would deal with it another way and they dropped the whole subject. I really think that if you have a business center, you should at least get it working properly if not for me, for the people who come by later who need to use it!
I would not stay at this hotel again nor would I recommend it to anyone who is visiting the University.
