I had my puppy, Mimi, put to sleep today. She was nearly 15 years old and had reached a point where her body was breaking down and she didn't seem to get any enjoyment out of life anymore. Our family was hoping she would go naturally and peacefully on her own, but she had been hanging on for a day or two beyond what we thought she would and it reached a point where we knew the kindest thing to do was to end her suffering and let her sleep.
I called this morning and they were at my house nearly two hours later. Dr. Reed was extremely gentle and caring and even though she had never seen Mimi before today, she genuinely seemed to care about her and the delicacy of the situation.
It costs quite a lot more than having it done at the vet's office , but there is no price too high to know that Mimi died in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her family. I am extremely sad but also extremely grateful that she was able to pass under the best conditions possible given the circumstances.
I would feel bad if I didn't mention her assistant, Megan, who also came along and did most of the actual physical process like shaving Mimi's leg and giving her the shot. She was gentle and compassionate as well.
If I ever get another dog, I will seriously consider taking him or her to Sunset Eastern based entirely on my experience today. Mimi saw a lot of vets during her life, and none of them treated her quite as well as Dr. Reed did. Thank you for making this difficult process as comfortable as possible for all involved. I cannot overstate how thankful our family is.
