  • Underwhelmed. After years of our friends telling us this is their favorite place we decided as we are new to the area to try the spotted D. No 2.5 stars on Yelp so I'll be generous because it wasn't bad or good Staff hands down were great all except possibly at the end of the evening. The manager seemed to run past our table asking if everything was ok... leaving before we had a chance to reply.... actually it wasn't. First Mexican restaurant I have been in where they don't bring you chips and salsa as you sit down. Nor do they have any salsa for your meal. You might thing I shouldn't need it, but we both found out dishes bland and lacking any kind of Mexican flavor. We were served a couple of dishes that contained ingredients that we told up front we couldn't eat. Staff handled this very well. Pork Stew has a great description but no taste. Despite having hatch chillies on the list the only evidence of hatch chillies was the hard skin found in amongst the 75% potatoes. Atmosphere was nice, plenty of outdoor seats and great decor. Place was about half full of people but not worth returning for us. Plenty more chillies in that local sea. Sad part was to see the failing tax break that used to be El Pedrigal. The Spotted D is the only thing left now other than conference rooms. From looking at the credit card statement it appears that the HOA owns the Spotted D. So not sure of the arrangement there.
