| - I had a custom suit made, as well as three shirts. Both were done through the Groupon deal. I ended up paying $600 for the suit and $160 for three shirts. It's a reasonable price, but in the end, I was most disappointed because I don't think the product was delivered as advertised.
Service is good, though the employees and Peter are a little dispassionate. You make an appointment, you come in for a fitting, and if there are any other alterations that need to be made, he will do them at no extra cost. FYI, tailoring a suit runs anywhere from $80 to $120, depending on how much you do to it.
However, corners were cut:
1. The suit was advertised as bespoke. I thought that's what I'd get seeing the images for fittings on his website. The suit is actually made-to-measure, meaning he takes measurements and sends them off to somewhere in China. He said Shanghai. I recently had 2 suits and 5 shirts made in Shenzhen, China for a total of $500.
2. The shirts were advertised as doubleply 100% cotton, but I don't think they are based on the feel of the material. It's too plastick-y to be all cotton. I had someone else feel the shirt -- she works as a clothing buyer -- and she agreed. It's a rayon or polyester blend.
3. The suit material is thin. Canvas is fused. Upsold on small detailing features like stitching along the lapel and the lining, neither of which should cost more. This one is my fault -- I should have negotiated more aggressively -- but buyer beware.
I thought I was getting a great deal. The Groupon ad said you'd get a $1250 bespoke suit for only $500. But in the end, it's probably worth less than what you paid for. I had an Indochino suit of comparable quality made for $200 + $120 alterations = $320 during a sale. I don't think I'll return to Peter. May try Proper Cloth or Surmesur next.
