  • I originally reviewed Frost's Biltmore location, which I've always spoken very highly of. And this spot, located in San Tan, is deserving of equal amounts of praise. There's a handful of spots in Phoenix for good gelato. And one would assume that people would dismiss a mini-chain like Frost in favor of a locally owned establishment. But when you take into account their variety of flavors, high quality, and well-trained employees, you really can't help yourself, dammit! One of the things I've noticed is that Frost employees will consistently provide an "opinion" about every flavor you inquire about. It's almost as if they're all pre-programmed to spout a comment for virtually any kind of flavor you might consider. This is in stark contrast to a place such as Baskin Robbins, for example, where employees are only there to scoop the ice cream. Nothing more and nothing less. It's also obvious that the employees are well trained in the area of customer service, taking a page out of QuickTrip's playbook. Fake or not, people always respond well to friendliness. As for flavors, you're bound to find something that works. I've been experimenting with their fruitier flavors recently, but the seasalt caramel or nutella always satisfy a craving for something sweet. My girlfriend is a big fan of their Lotus cookie, which is only available during certain times. Hell, they even include gelato with booze, including a recent limited edition Cristal, which I deeply regret not trying in order to further enhance my "rags to riches" image. There's also strawberries and champagne, which I'm a big fan of, as well as limoncello, which is allegedly made with four shots of vodka. What's interesting is that they didn't so much as bat an eye when my 19 year-old sister ordered one, which makes me wonder if you'd have to consume the entire tub in order to get so much as a buzz. I do prefer the Biltmore location, which isn't quite as congested due to the mall catering to a slightly different demographic. But regardless of where you visit, the gelato is excellent and I seriously doubt you'll be disappointed. Eventually, when I'm feeling wild and reckless, I'll try one of their drinks to see if they're as good as their gelato. Great stuff!
