| - I normally buy online to avoid incompetent sales staff and high prices and the need to drive far, but I needed shoe cleats today so I thought I'd try Performance which I learned is the "Wal-Mart" of bike shops and should have what I need. Went in, got the cleats, and actually thought I'd go ahead and buy a Lezyne pump on clearance. I assumed Lezyne is a very well built pump but wasn't too sure. I was approached by a sales staff and was asked if I needed help. I asked what he could tell me about the Lezyne versus Topeak hoping he could convince me to buy the more expensive Lezyne pump. He said, "The Lezyne looks better.", but he lost me at that. He new nothing, but instead of saying he could have someone else who may know more help, he continued to ramble and make up stuff. STRIKE ONE. I said okay, I'm done and headed to the registers. I thought I was on my way out, but the girl at the register forgot to ring up my cleats. I guess it's a simple human error. I said "I thought the price seemed kind of low." Well it was because the computer rang the pump at full price. STRIKE TWO. So she makes a price adjustment after softly arguing with Brian on how to correct the pricing on the items and I left the store. Next day I decided I needed cleats with grips. No problem, I looked online and found some for $17.00. I thought I'd return these non-grip cleats that I purchased for $19.00 with no problem. Well upon returning them, the girl said "because of the price adjustment we did yesterday, I can refund $8 to your card and give you a gift card for $11.00. What??!! I just wanted the money I initially paid by a card back in my card. I said " I just want my money back so I can buy the cleats elsewhere, and I'll be a happy customer." The manager comes and says " I can order you those cleats for $34.00." STRIKE THREE!. I didn't want to pay$34 when I could pay $19 elsewhere. That's $34 for something they didn't even have in stock! A commonly bought cleat is not stocked at a store as big as performance?!! To think I drove almost 10 miles when I could have just gone to the smaller mom and pop bike shop 1 block away from my home. This is the wal-Mart of all bike shops, how could that be? Not that I wanted to buy them from there anyway, less pay $34. I just wanted my money back so that I could buy the cleats I wanted for $19 online. The manager (Brian) became snappy and began to change his tone as he said he couldn't return the full $11.00...not even in cash. We are talking about small amounts of money here, but it is the principle of being a victim of being overcharged, then after deciding to return an unused item, the store says they can't return your money even though the reason was their fault. Oh, by the way, Brian said his staff did nothing wrong. It was the computer that is at fault for not charging me the correct amount at the very beginning.
Never again!! Shop Amazon or EBay. I ended up buying the cleats for cheaper on Amazon and guess what? I was actually charged what the store told me they would charge! What a concept!! I can't look at my shiny new expensive pump like I did when I first bought it. My thoughts were to return that too because of my experience......but I do not dare try to enter that store again let alone try to buy or return something!
