| - I recently left my 3.5 month old puppy at the Barkley and frankly could not be more disappointed in her stay. Although the staff were always kind and helpful, it seems the actual facility and their program simply don't go near the most basic standards of care I have for my puppy.
I paid extra for a room that had a webcam. In retrospect, this was a dumb decision because all I saw 24/7 was my puppy sitting alone in her room without any interaction with people or other dogs. As I began to notice how isolated she was (pretty quickly), I felt the need to check the web cam constantly to make sure she was OK (unsure if anyone else was watching her AND almost ruining my vacation).
She seemed so isolated in fact that at one point late at night I had to call the Barkley's emergency phone number to ask the person on staff to carry her off a bed they put in her room because she is afraid to jump off objects and had been trying to get off of the bed for the past 40+ minutes but couldn't --- to me, this showed how unsupervised she was.
I also asked this same person to remove the bed from her room since it seemed like a large, unsafe object for a little puppy to be jumping onto. When the person removed the bed, 2 days worth of urine puddles were exposed to the webcam that had not been cleaned up and that my puppy had essentially been constantly living with in a very small room. I immediately took screenshots of this as it was so disturbing to me that they wouldn't be more regularly cleaning this.
Another aspect of the Barkley that I find upsetting is that they said they would take my puppy out for 5 walks per day (with us having to pay extra money for one of those walks). I was watching her so closely that I find it hard to believe all 5 of those walks happened....but anyways....the Barkley defines a walk as time outside until your dog goes to the bathroom. For my puppy, she likely went to the bathroom immediately upon going outside, and then was brought back to her room right away --- that is not a "walk."
Additionally, on my puppy's first night she was not fed dinner until 8pm, which is when they say they feed all of their dogs. To me, this sounds way too late to be feeding a 3.5 month old puppy. Finally, we had signed her up to receive attention in her room before she went to bed each night, which never happened. When I questioned this staff about this at checkout they simply said there was a glitch in the system so it didn't happen (although they did take this off our bill).
